Freshening up your home’s interior and exterior for the warmer months ahead!

Freshening up your home’s interior and exterior will invigorate your home with spring energy so that you can enjoy the warm weather

Here are a few tips to prepare your home for the warmer weather.

Getting your air conditioning system ready. Change or wash the filters, which should be done monthly. Clean the coils and wash the condenser outside, if needed. Trim away any shrubs from the unit, and make sure its drain line isn’t clogged. While you’re at it, change your furnace filter so it’s ready for fall.

Fertilize the lawn. Once the snow melts, you’ll probably need to take some steps to get your yard back into shape. Start your lawn work by racking away any leaves, branches, and clutter that was hidden under the snow all winter. Prune and trim your trees and shrubs and then haul away compost debris.

Declutter. We all have too much stuff. Get rid of items you don’t use, including the stuff you have stored in the garage or basement because you “might” need it sometime.

Cleaning Out The Gutters-Grab a ladder, and check your gutters for debris. Remove as much as you can with your hands (Don’t forget to wear gloves!). Remove any leftover gunk with a garden hose. Take off any nozzle and have a helper turn on the water when you’re ready. Shove the hose into the downspout to power out of gooseneck bends. Make sure your downspouts channel water at least five feet from foundation walls. Since you have the ladder out, examine your roof shingles. Shingles that are cracked, buckled or loose or are missing granules need to be replaced. Flashing around plumbing vents, skylights and chimneys need to be checked and repaired by a qualified roofer.

Wash Exterior Windows-Windows often take the brunt of winter weather, keeping out cold winds and catching winter dust, dirt, and even salt from the roads. Your first step in spring cleaning should be to wash the inside and outside of your windows. You’ll be amazed at how much more light can enter a space when the windows are clean!

BBQ season!<strong>Clean the Grill! Give it a good scrub and inspection. Clean the briquettes and check the burners and cooking grids for rust. If there’s a touch of rust, scrape it off. If there’s substantial rust, it’s time to shop for replacement parts or the decent grill you should have bought in the first place. Baked-on food clouding the cover? Use oven cleaner and hose away the mess.

Deep Clean Carpets and Rugs– After a long winter, spot clean the carpets at least once or twice a year or as needed.

Clean Baseboards, dust off blinds, and take down draperies- Changing your window treatments is an effortless way to bring spring pep into your home. Keep it simple by just washing or dry cleaning your current draperies, or take it one step further by updating heavy draperies with light and airy sheers.

Garage-Clear out the clutter and establish some designated spaces. You’ll enjoy your new and improved layout for seasons to come. Check out “6 Crucial must-dos with your garage
